Muharram (non-veg) Fasting
Not eating Non Veg for certain no. of days
Today, I would like to discus on the topic, that few Muslims, do not eat Non Veg, during certain period, on which questions has been raised by our brothers on recent days.
Let us see things:
1) Why do we avoid or restrict certain foods?
2) From where do we learned such practice?
3) What is the point of view from Allah & his prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)
In sha Allah
1) First Point - Why do we avoid or restrict certain foods?
Previous generation used to avoid and restrict below acts on the first 12 days of Muharram month
- Non veg food
- Brushing teeth
- Combing Hair
- Beard cutting / shaving
- Away from spouse
- No marriage or gatherings
- and few other practices...
(and these followers don't do all as mentioned, which they change as per their convenient)
Such foolish acts has no basis, except the reason they assume that, it is a way of fasting to show their condolence to the death of grand children of our Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) at Karbala.
They don't think a logic, why such condolence was nor done to the death of Prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) and neither of his own daughters, sons and any of the sahabas?
These people, don't even know (or least bothered to know) how many children and grand children are there for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), except Hassan & Hussain. Why they ignore other family members??
May Allah guide us to the straight path and save us from the wrong path!
Ameen.
2) Second point - From where do we learned such practice?
This practice is kind of fasting, which was followed by kuffar (non muslims), from the pre-islamic period.
- They do such fasting on a day (Saturday or Tuesday, like that)
- They do such fasting on new moon day
- They do such fasting on solar or lunar eclipse days
Also, they have different variety & combination of fasting.
Later on it entered Islam from the practice of Shia muslims, after Karbala battle.
And few of our previous generations, by ignorance & because of poor Ilm, they copied few acts from Shia, without realizing the truth & purpose. May be they do not have the source of information to be verified and may be just because of eagerness to learn islam, they end up with a person who taught them wrongly.
May Allah forgive them.
But, the sad part is, we are in the age of information world. Where anyone can reach and verify any part of information he wants to, and doesn't want to accept and correct their wrong teaching.
May Allah guide us to straight path & save us from the wrong path.
Ameen
3) Third Point - What is the point of view in Islam (Allah and Rasool - peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Firstly, we need to understand and accept that, Islam is nothing but what Allah & his prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was given to us.
Any acts or practices, other than from the teaching of Allah & his prophet (peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) is not part of ISLAM.
So, about this kind of fasting & practices has no source or link to ISLAM at all.
When Allah had made things halal for us, we have no right to change and make it haram on us. This is directly against Allah and takes you out of Islam too.
For example, Allah declared my food (Egg or chicken) halal for me (except on the day time of Ramazan). I have no right to change such halal food to make it haram on me and my family for other days and nights.
To be more precise, our prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) himself do not have right to change Allah's command.
So, how can we do that??
Secondly, Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said "Those who practice any acts other than my teaching, they are not part of me, but they are part of them"
So, being Ummah of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we must be more careful on the acts which takes us away from Allah
and we must care & love to practice the teachings of our Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Only such acts will bring closer to Allah.
I'm not going to discuss about Shia and their deviation here, only few points may be relevant to this topic, but not important.
Do let me know if you have any specific question / doubt on this, which may need more clarification.
In sha Allah.
May Allah guide us to straight path and save us from the wrong doors.
Ameen!
Allah knows better!
